Cinque Terre

I am shocked, which doesn't happen often, that I never talked about my day trip to Cinque Terre. Cinque means five in Italian, and terre is land so today we are talking about these five towns that make up Cinque Terre. We were able to visit three of the five towns this day which I think was great considering we were a few hours at the last town sun bathing and relaxing at sea.

The first town we visited is called Manarola. Just like Riomaggiore which you will see in a second, this town is made up of houses on the cliff next to the sea. All the houses are beautifully colored.

The following town we visited is called Riomaggiore. Like Manarola it has colorful houses in the edges of the cliff. Here we were also able to get a quick bite for lunch at a take away restaurant our guides recommended to us. Don't let the name or the look of the outside fool you for a tourist trap, this place I would go to a million times again. It's called Mamma Mia! and the font is exactly the same as the movie and Broadway musical but the food speaks for itself. While it's known for its pesto pizza, which is to die for, I went for a mix of fried calamari which was the most delicious seafood I have had up to now.

The final town we visited was also the one we stayed in the longest as this one gave us an opportunity to relax in the water and try what our guides called drunk buckets, don't know if I would get the bucket again in my life but the rest of the day I would repeat in a heart beat. The water throughout all of Cinque Terre is beautiful hues of turquoise and blue, and it did not disappoint in Monterosso.
